Tuner News: Brabus Gets Trick-E With the BenzBOTTROP, Germany — Subtle. But not too subtle. That's the philosophy at Brabus, the longtime Mercedes tuning house. The company has just finished touching up the face-lifted E-Class sedan and wagon, and is offering a full range of engine tuning and other goodies. The E500 gets special attention. The displacement of its V8 engine is bumped from 5.0 to 6.1 liters. Output is nudged to 462 horsepower, with torque climbing to 454 pound-feet. Brabus also eliminates the annoying electronic tether, so top speed jumps to 190 mph, and the 0-60-mph sprint takes a mere 4.8 seconds. Even E350 buyers can take some solace in the Brabus treatment, which hikes displacement of the V6 to 4.0 liters and boosts output to 332 hp and 310 lb-ft. The E320 CDI receives similar treatment, with similarly satisfying results. read more. (AFX UK Focus) 2006-06-15 10:24 GMT: DaimlerChrysler being sued by US car dealer over 1.7 mln usd junk carLOS ANGELES (AFX) - An exotic car dealer in the US yesterday said he has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against DaimlerChrysler AG and its subsidiary Mercedes-Benz for a full refund on a malfunctioning rare automobile, calling it "the world's most expensive lemon." Mark Johnston, owner of Grand Prix Motors in Los Angeles, bought a Mercedes Benz AMG CLK-GTR roadster, one of only five produced, and the only car of its kind in North America for 1.7 mln usd in 2003. The Guinness Book of World Records lists the car as the most expensive production vehicle ever. "The car turned out to be exotic in the worst possible way," said Johnston, a former Ferrari mechanic. "It just doesn't run." The limited edition roadster is made of carbon fiber with an integrated steel roll cage and energy absorbing crash box. read more. The prince of PixarThe most powerful man in Hollywood gently rearranged a line of toy cars on the tabletop separating us at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Suddenly he heard the thrum of an engine. "Wait! Wait!" he urged, scampering down the steps of the skybox and peering out the window to the track. "It's Paul Newman! Look at him go!" I was about to ask John Lasseter how he retained his eternally youthful outlook, but that seemed unnecessary now. The Midas-like head of Pixar came to Lowe's for the "Cars" premiere. He brought a boundless supply of enthusiasm, half a dozen Hawaiian shirts and the certainty that "Cars" will be Pixar's seventh straight hit after "Toy Story," "A Bug's Life," "Toy Story 2," "Monsters, Inc.," "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles." Lasseter had a hand in every one as a producer, writer or director. read more. CARkeys - DTM Comes To Brands HatchThe weekend of July 1-2 sees one of the world's most exciting saloon car race series come to Brands Hatch race circuit in Kent. Cars competing in the DTM (German Touring Car Championship) look vaguely like their production counterparts, but they use exceptionally advanced chassis and 500bhp V8 engines. Some very big names can be found on the entry lists. Regular competitors this year include Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and seven-times Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen. It has even attracted former F1 World Champion Damon Hill, who will test an AMG Mercedes-Benz C-Class at Brands Hatch later this week. The two British drivers taking part in the DTM this year are Jamie Green - currently lying fourth equal in the points table alongside Hakkinen and Frentzen - and Susie Stoddart, only the second female DTM driver to take part in the series after Ellen Lohr competed with great success a few years ago. read more.Refrain from wasting resources attempting to train yourself.
