Special Edition Mercedes SLK 55 AMG roars up the roadAs if a regular SLK 55 wasn't enough to whet your whistle and turn a few heads as you whip around town, Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to release a special edition of the AMG'd out sports coupe that will surely be the envy of all your Beverly Hills neighbours. While they've clearly thrown in some cosmetic upgrades so it is painfully obviouse to those around you that you're sitting in something pretty special (edition), the meat of the action can be found under thd hood. AMG has tuned up a 5.5L V8, effectively giving you 400 horses at your beck and call. The 384 lbs-ft isn't exactly anything to sneeze at either. Rocket from a standstill to 60mph in a speedy 4.5 seconds. The drop top has been eliminated in favour of a permanent closed roof made of carbon-reinforced plastic (let the CRaP jokes ensue), lowering the vehicle's centre of gravity. read more. McLaren extends Exxon partnershipMcLaren extends Exxon partnership 11/06/2006 Team McLaren Mercedes and ExxonMobil Lubricants & Petroleum Specialties Company has announced a long-term extension to their Technology Partnership, which sees the Formula 1 team supplied with performance fuels and fully synthetic motor oils and lubricants through the Mobil 1 brand. Mercedes-Benz CL: first picturesThe first undisguised photos of the new-generation Mercedes-Benz CL-Class coupe have leaked onto the internet in advance of an official unveiling event next week. As suggested by our earlier spy shots and the video spy shot going live on 4Car today, the new CL - based on the latest W221-series S-Class saloon's platform - has a longer wheelbase and wider cabin than its predecessor, making it more spacious. The shots, published by the Carscoop and Autoblog websites, also show clearly its CLS-style front end and side profile. The CL will come with 5.5-litre V8 (CL 550) and twin-turbo 5.5 V12 (CL 600) engines in standard form, with the CL 63 AMG delivering 514bhp from its 6.3 V8. An even more powerful CL 65 AMG, with the Maybach's 612bhp V12, is also rumoured. We'll have more details on the CL next week, after the official preview; the range will then be formally launched at the Paris Motor Show in the autumn, with sales following shortly after. read more. Mercedes Benz Announces Super-SLK55When Carroll Shelby crammed a 289 cubic-inch Ford V8 into a miniscule British roadster, people called him crazy. Going a step further and dropping the 427 cubic inch Ford motor into the same car confirmed it. With over 450 horsepower at the wheels, lighting the fuse on one of these ultra-short wheelbase rockets was a frightening experience. But one cant help but wonder; what would a modern-day 427 Cobra look like? This; the new special series of Mercedes Benz SLK55. In normal Mercedes-Benz form, the SLK is a tame convertible powered by the buyers choice of either a 2.8- or 3.5-liter V6; the larger of which maxes out at a respectable although hardly earthshaking 268 horsepower. In AMG-tuned form, the little drop-top gets a far more sporting 5.5L V8 good for 355 horsepower, and now, thanks to even more AMG wizardry, this new version of the SLK55 boasts 400 horsepower. read more.Simply take a few minutes and you'll certainly pinpoint specifically the material that you are mindful for.
