SLK Special Series hard-top makes SLK 55 AMG even sportierMercedes-Benz is offering an AMG-developed limited-run Special Series SLK, with its folding hard-top replaced by a carbon fibre fixed roof to reduce weight. The SLK Special Series also has its 5.4-litre V8 tuned for 400bhp, 40bhp up on the output of the SLK 55 AMG on which it is based. Torque is also increased to 383lb-ft and 0-60mph acceleration now comes up in 4.5 seconds - although top speed remains limited to 155mph (or 186mph, with the extra-cost option offered in some countries). These mods have been achieved by the addition of a new exhaust system and air intake. The new model has been developed in response to requests for a more track-oriented car, more sports-focused than the SLK 55 AMG. Its suspension has therefore been substantially revised, with much stiffer springs, adjustable dampers, thicker anti-roll bars and further-lowered ride height, as well as extra strut bracing, composite brakes and new 19" wheels. read more. F1 stars gear up for Brands Hatch dateTake one Mercedes or Audi road car. Add a flame-spitting, 500bhp V8 engine, strap it to the most technically advanced chassis on the planet, ramp up the noise levels, install an ex-F1 driver or similarly talented pilot, and shake. The result? The awesome DTM Touring Car series, which arrives at Brands Hatch on the weekend of 1-2 July. Earmarked as the 'next stage' in Michael Schumacher's illustrious career, former adversaries Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi, Heinz Harald Frentzen and seven times Le Mans winner, Tom Kristensen, already make it their hunting ground for continued glory. Indeed, so popular is the DTM series, it has attracted the attention of Damon Hill. The former F1 World Champion will test the AMG Mercedes-Benz C Class this Friday (June 23rd) at Brands Hatch. read more. CARkeys - DTM Comes To Brands HatchThe weekend of July 1-2 sees one of the world's most exciting saloon car race series come to Brands Hatch race circuit in Kent. Cars competing in the DTM (German Touring Car Championship) look vaguely like their production counterparts, but they use exceptionally advanced chassis and 500bhp V8 engines. Some very big names can be found on the entry lists. Regular competitors this year include Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and seven-times Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen. It has even attracted former F1 World Champion Damon Hill, who will test an AMG Mercedes-Benz C-Class at Brands Hatch later this week. The two British drivers taking part in the DTM this year are Jamie Green - currently lying fourth equal in the points table alongside Hakkinen and Frentzen - and Susie Stoddart, only the second female DTM driver to take part in the series after Ellen Lohr competed with great success a few years ago. read more. |
